ASA, CSSA, SSSA Publications: Special Collection Proposals

Special collections are designed to:

bring to the forefront and promote new areas of research of broad interest to the journal’s readership;
highlight and provide a platform for scientific exchange resulting from symposia, collaborative projects, and topical conferences;
provide a periodic overview of the state of the art in various research areas by soliciting contributions from active leaders in the field.

Process: A proposal for a special collection solicits and calls for papers along a theme that aligns with the journal scope (approved by the Editor) to be submitted, reviewed, and published within a time frame usually of one year. A typical collection varies from 6 to 25 manuscripts, and papers undergo the journal's standard peer review process.

To submit a proposal for a special collection in an ASA, CSSA, or SSSA journal, please complete this form. Only the fields with an asterisk are required. Your responses will be shared with ASA, CSSA, SSSA staff and the editorial board of the journal(s) that you selected. Please reach out to our team (journals@sciencesocieties.org) with any questions.

Please provide a description of the topics that would be covered in your special collection, including 7-10 keywords.

Please include first name, last name, ORCID ID, and primary email. Special collection co-organizers may be called upon by the journal's editorial board to serve as guest Associate Editors for the collection.

At least one organizer is required, but we recommend 2-5 individuals.

If your special section will include a call for abstracts period, please enter the proposed closing date here.

Proposed Submission Start Date *

Your proposal should be submitted at least 6 weeks in advance of the start date.

Proposed Submission Deadline *

Generally, we recommend a submission window of 6-12 months. Extensions to the deadline as possible, but not guaranteed.
